SMB West CascadeWalnut Build

Well after months of planning, our build finally started on April 20th. Hopefully, I can post updates to this thread throughout the build progress. My goal is to show the quality craftsmanship, and pride that the folks in Fresno put into these awesome vans. Feel free to offer and suggestions or guidance in this process, as we are still playing with adding last minute components (passenger swivel, safety mirror, aluminess rear bumper)

Looks like we accidentally left some items behind...

Cut for XL storage box...

Re: SMB West "El Chivo" Build

Congratulations on the start of your build!

You mentioned the passenger swivel as a possible option. Not sure how much money that addition is but our '50' layout just wouldn't be the same without the passenger seat swiveling to face the interior. It's an option I would insist upon if it were me. It provides another seat in the living area and seems to open it up a bit.
Maybe because thats where I usually sit. My wife seems to always get the bench and lay lengthwise with the pillows up against the pantry. Looks comfortable, but I wouldn't know.

Have fun with the build,

Mike

I will second the passenger seat swivel being a must have option. Best of luck with your build and maintaining patience until it is done.

Re: SMB West "El Chivo" Build

I don't have a swivel mount, as I have an audio amplifier mounted under the passenger seat. I will say that there have been many times when I wish I had it, but I love the sound system in my van at the same time.

Wouldn't get it without swivel! I have a huge amp possibly 2 mounted under rear seat next to fresh water tank. Big bass under the cabinets in storage. Sound system is awesome!

Re: SMB West "El Chivo" Build

Thank you all for your comments, I do believe a passenger swivel will be added to the project. It's been a while since the last update, but it appears SMB West has cut the roof, and are preparing to cut windows.

Here are a few pictures (notice clean cuts):

Re: SMB West CascadeWalnut Build

Joesph over at SMB west sent some more updates my way today, looks like they are putting in some windows and the subfloor, enjoy....

Nice big window for our daughter to see this beautiful country we live in.

Now this last little bit deserves some explanation, first off Joesph sent us this picture with the original grouping:

At first it looked like the driver side slider was completely butting up against the rear of the rig. This I thought my cause an inconvenience with the fridge/microwave cabinet on the driver side, and the sink on the passenger side. The placement of the windows is supposed to go the length of the dinette and stop at the above mentioned cabinets.

I sent off a quick email to Joesph seeking some clarification on the window dimensions, and there placement. They had looked much longer than we discussed. Within 30 minutes he responded like a true professional would, thoroughly addressing my concerns and attached this photo:

Which looks exactly like we had planned and discussed. Seems earlier I was looking at the passenger side slider that was butting up against the barn doors, thinking it was the driver side slider
