Re: The birth of a new Sportsmobile

Thanks. That's the entire weight of the rack. It will hold PLENTY, well over 1000 lbs (more than you would ever drive with). I am up there all the time with the kids jumping around. That of course is in the down position on the roof. I have two Thule cargo bags that I use for storage of gear en route (up to 30 cubic feet of storage space) that once empty, create a nice padded surface, and when combined with some beach chairs, make a nice upper deck. For warranty reasons, Errrr… I would never have more than the stated amount of stuff (I think the stated limit is 150lbs… including the rack) on the roof in the up position.... but I have seen another 2009 SMB in Dallas that looks just like mine with a good 250 lbs up there no problem ..... my personal rule of thumb now is that if you don’t think you can/should raise the roof with it up top, then you probably should not drive with it up top on the freeway (long haul).

What an unbelievable build! Congratulations!

One question if you don't mind. For the in-dash Kenwood, does your flip-down screen on the roof pull video off that or do you have DVD connected separately?

Cyan – the Kenwood deck setup is pretty cool. You can do either. I run the dvd from the deck to the video screen and have a second input installed in the wall for an xbox. It’s a very flexible system, feel free to send me questions via PM if you are considering one.

Re: The birth of a new Sportsmobile

I know this thread is old, but I just came across it and really like the hammock installation. My wife has been begging me to install some sort of hammock hangers in my Pleasure-Way Traverse. I have been hesitant to do so as I wasn't sure there was a suitable mounting surface. What hardware did you use for the mounts and how did you attach them?

Re: The birth of a new Sportsmobile

As soon as I saw the hammock, my thoughts went immediately to the upper connection points (now empty in my van) for the seat belts. Just run the hammock diagonally across the van from behind the driver to passenger rear door....

Doggonit! Why did I spend time building a bunk this week?

Nice set up! I'm just starting the build on a new SMB. You have some nice work in your rig! Sweet!
