Usefulness of rear & side door screens

You're right, these are a clever, and simple, solution. Unfortunately, you're also right in that they are pricey. If enough people would be interested, should we look into the possibility of a Group Buy?

If you mean wind wings no I dont have them but the Skreenz would go over them If I did have them.

Thanks everyone for your answers. Seems like whether I go for the actual SMB screens or not...SOME screens of some kind are a very good idea. This expensive option is interesting but, wouldn't appear to work for the large openings of the side and rear doors. Unless I'm missing something.

The only thing you missed was me hijacking the thread.

I got everything from SMB that remotely made sense, but I didn't get the screens. They seemed over priced with too many complaints. I think you could cob up something on your own, especially using Brian's magnets, that would work just as well as the official version. Using the magnets you could make an effective single screen solution, I would think.

Brian, how did you attached the magnets to the screen?

The magnets are glued to the screen. I used Barge brand contact cement. I put glue on the magnets pieces and waited a bit, then stuck them to the screen. Later (next day) I added more Barge cement to the back side of the magnets, pushing it into the screen material. The rubberized magnets are not very strong, but they don't scratch the paint either. The rubber magnet stock comes in a roll and I cut it in short pieces. I glued the rubber magnets to the "van" side of the screen material, while the metal magnets I added later are glued to the "away from the van" side. I added the metal magnets to the corners of the screens after the screens on the front windows blew off once in a strong wind. They stick very well now. The screen material is no-see-um mesh from a sporting goods store.

The really nice screen that I got from SMB West is the white windshield and side window screen. This screen covers the driver's side window, the front van windshield and the passenger side window. It attaches to both doors with two small plastic clips. The mesh is fairly wide, good for large insects such as flies and mosquitoes but not great for no-see-ums.

It is sold as a privacy screen, since you can see out but it is difficult to see in. The white color discourages insects (black attracts most bugs) and allows you to open the front windows for a breeze at night.

The white privacy screen is far more useful than the Velcroed black screen for the side cargo doors.

Speaking of screens, I got the over the driver and passenger door screens from skreenz.com. They're pretty nice but nothing you couldn't do yourself.
