Wheels and tires on SMB sprinter order

This is my first post, and I am not sure if this is the right sub forum for this question.

My wife and I have ordered a 2020 sprinter to be outfitted by SMB North. It is 4x4, and will have a pop-top. When we placed the order with the dealer I was unsure of the tires I wanted. A month later I decided the best option was a BF Goodrich TA KO2 all terrain tires LT245/70R17 with the race method 701 wheels, which is listed on the SMB web site. The dealer said that he could not change the order, and did not offer any option. SMB North said they do not have facilities in house, or nearby to make the change.

So, it is 8 months later and the van is waiting to be shipped to the dealer. It looks like the only option open is to drive the completed van back to NC, and then swap out the tires and wheels. Then sell slightly worn tires.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this the best idea?

Once back in NC should I order the tires and wheels from them and have them install them? Or go to my favorite tire shop?

Congrats and welcome.

If I understand this correctly, the van will come with some version of stock tires and wheels. You want to upgrade to Method wheels and KO2s. Question is where to buy? Not sure who "should I buy from them" is.

I would buy locally from your favorite tire shop. At some point either way you will be replacing the tires. If there is an issue, your favorite tire shop will likely be better solution.

^^^ agree with the above. Have your home shop order what you need and have it waiting for you. Be aware that the bolts are a different length (stock steel wheels vs, cast aluminum), order them at the same time.

What a bummer.
What used to be “SMB West” would have added that change in a heartbeat, especially 8 months out.
Do what Fitz suggested...
