Aluminus shovel problem

I just noticed this today. It's the fiberglass shovel handle. The groove is caused by the top bracket on my aluminus shovel and axe holder. The fiberglass is worn through to the base metal center rod.
Anyone one else have this problem?

Aluminus shovel problem

Good thing you found that before you needed it. Mine's new. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Re: Aluminus shovel problem

First thing I did with my mount was to line the clamp with stick-on .25" neoprene, which conforms to the handle and protects it. You really kind of have to do this.

Re: Aluminus shovel problem

Thanks guys for the heads up. I just checked my shovel and, sure enough, it's becoming worn. Off to the hardware store I go top get something to protect the shovel and axe.

LMAO, my solution was to buy a couple of extra shovels at Harbor Freight. Your solution seems so much more elegant.

Re: Aluminus shovel problem

The new expedition kit is made a little differently and I don't believe it has as much play as the old design.

I added some automotive door edge guard to mine just in case.
