Cafe Solo Coffee Maker

Groupon is featuring this coffee brewer similar to a French press for $45 shipped.

I've been unsatisfied with the instant or concentrate pre-brew that I've been using for coffee, so I’m going to give it a try. Hopefully the neoprene sleeve will help the glass survive in the SMB. Google the product for more details, photos and youtube reviews.

I know some people don't like espresso but that's what I brew. I had one of those aluminum makers but those are poorly made and switched to a stainless steel pot that works great. Got it from Espresso Zone

I use and like a Frieling stainless steel press pot, which is nearly bomb proof. I also use the Hario Skerton hand grinder ... don't use the pre-ground stuff if you like good coffee.

Re: Cafe Solo Coffee Maker

I have one almost identical to the Frieling (but I think it's branded Paderno) for home use. I agree it is bombproof. I don't use it in the van as it's quite heavy. In the van, I use a Jetboil with a French press - boil and brew all in one, and it is very light and stores easily.

To the OP, I would be hesitant to get a glass one for use on the road. There are many Lexan French press options out there (with neoprene sleeves), such as the ones Scalf77 posted, and probably much cheaper than $45.

Cheers,
Brent

I had two ceramic cups in my van, and I broke both within two weeks. I'd think twice about using glass in your van, but maybe you're more careful than I am.

All of the light weight french presses I've seen have plastic in contact with the coffee, which I prefer to avoid.

Re: Cafe Solo Coffee Maker

I've been using a lexan French Press for many years while car camping and also in the SMB. No complaints at all. However, lately I've been using the Aeropress and could not be happier. I use it at home and it is perfect for camping as well. Especially since it is so easy to clean, takes up very little space and is somewhat unbreakable. I would definitely recommend it, especially since it is so inexpensive.
