Camcorder battery source / advice

Looking for recommendations on sources, and things to look out for, as far as additional camcorder batteries. I only have one battery for my Sony camcorder, and want to buy a second one to have with me on long trips. It's hardly the most versatile camera (very few user settings), but it allows me both video and still pics from one camera, so it's convenient and relatively compact.

I'm not tied to a Sony branded battery by any means ($$$), but also don't want something that will stop holding it's charge 3 months after I get it. There are literally dozens of hits on a Google search, but was hoping for some firsthand recommendations.

Herb, my limited experience has made me wary of after-market replacement batteries sold under other than the manufacturer's name, FWIW, take a look at the Sony camcorder batteries currently available from Amazon. Their marked-down prices look pretty good. Good luck!

Yeah, I hear you. I can already tell that most battery sellers state Sony equivalent. I did find at least one that has the Rayovac name on it (at least it's a battery manufacturer name I recognize). I will check out Amazon, thanks for the tip.

Doubling up on the Amazon suggestion as well as the name-brand. Unless you find a battery with very high user review scores on Amazon, it's best just to stick with stock. They're usually not that much more expensive.

(And in case you guys don't know, Monoprice.com is totally the best place ever to buy cables and wiring. I write about electronics for a living and buy everything from raw CAT-5 to little FireWire cables there.)
