Received an e-mail that their Android app "Ultimate US Public Campgrounds" has been released. I was asked if I wanted to Beta-test, but I flaked and forgot about the e-mail. Good thing they didn't wait for me.

I have not tried this app.

I've just started using a free android app called "Oh Ranger!".

You just have to get past the cutsie name and a couple of Ad/menu screens by Ford and LLBean to get to a bunch of very good info on public campgrounds, recreation areas, boat launch, and more.

A very extensive set of filter options lets you find skiing, wildlife viewing, swimming, fishing, history/culture, etc etc.

The info on each feature is in depth and accurate for the ones I've checked.

We used Ultimate Campground last summer in NM, AZ, UT, NV, ID & CO and, IIRC, two years ago across the Midwest to WI, MI, & MN. It's our go-to app when not boondocking. The only deficiency is you can't download a region like GaiaGPS does for non-cellular areas. It's search function is a bit awkward but I forget exactly why since I haven't used it since Sept. I seem to recall that if you searched for places with feature X while turning off feature Y and feature X was a subset of or relied upon feature Y in some manner, you wouldn't get any results for X. Otherwise, a fine piece of work.

Just noticed this. The app DOES keep all its data so that you can use it offline, with no cell reception. You will not, however, be able to use the map, directions, or other features that require real time internet. But the basic data about the campgrounds is there.
