I think the biggest problem with the Ford vans and deep water crossing is the location of the air intake which is located just behind the drivers side headlight. If the water hits the front bumper and starts pushing over you will be in serious danger of flooding your engine, and then your deep water crossing will have just turned into deep water recovery.

Depends on the motor. The triton motors draw form just above/in-front of the radiator.
Where is everyone mounting their air compressors for lockers or on-board air? and if it's a low spot, are you running an extension for the air intake? what opinions on best location to mount so its pulling air from same level as engine's air filter?
I agree I won't be taking my smb super deep, but I would want to be able to cross an inch or two above the bottom of the doors...

Mine is sitting fairly low. I asked SMB about it and they claimed it would be OK as long as you didn't run it while fording. The filter is similar to an K&N filter and saturated in oil, so far no problems.
