Dometic basket - why?

Just got a CF35 from Dometic. Does anyone know what purpose this basket serves? It has no bottom, so it can't keep items from getting wet or aid in taking them out.

Is it just to aid circulation? Or is it to protect the sides?

I am inclined to leave it out to get a little more space.

The unit has coolant plates that run up the sides, so the cage probably protects them from getting damaged. I have a full basket in my Engel, which is nice to be able to lift all the contents out to clean the bottom, but it also keeps whatever your putting in there from freezing to the sides if in freezer mode.

I see. Thanks!

I'm not using it for freezing so I think I'll take it out. Weird that it was not mentioned at all in the instructions.
