Yes, the Door Talon actually hooks on the metal fend, it will be easier without them.

Ford uses more then one supplier for the hinges on those doors. They don't pay much attention to the tolerance, the door stops won't let the door swing as close to the van body (or let it get to close depending on how your van is). The interesting thing is that there is no rhyme or reason to it. I've seen vans of the same year work with the original design and not work. It just comes down to what hinges were on hand at the time.

Re: Door Talon News

So here is how you determine which Door Talon will work best on your rig.

Take a tape measure, open your side door to the full open position, with just a little pressure on the door. Now measure from the inside of the wheel well to the flat edge of the door. The pictures should help illustrate how this should be done (note the arrows in the pics).

If this measurement is between 6" to 71/4" the original kit will work for your van.
If the measurement is larger then 71/4" you will want the new extended version.

The Door Talon Extended will work in either case, the extra hook just won't be used and it will not get in the way of anything.

Re: Door Talon News

I met John and Lisa today out at the Red Rock Campground just west of Las Vegas. A very nice couple. We spent about an hour chit-chatting. I wish I had brought some tools. I would have had him install my Door Talon. He said it only takes him about ten minutes to do it. That means it will take me a couple of hours.

Re: Door Talon News

I finally installed my door talon today. It only took me an half hour, including time to get all of my tools out. Not bad for someone with no mechanical skills. It works great!!!!! Thanks John!

Man, I need to get a new camera that doesn't take blurry pictures.

Re: Door Talon News

Hey Mac,
Looks like you did a great job (even with the blurry pics).
Lisa and were just talking about making our way back to Red Rock Canyon again. I was going to PM you and offer to install that thing of you but it looks like you beat me to it.

It is a clean, simple, inexpensive & effective modification. If you don't have one of these yet, support American ingenuity and buy one!

Re: Door Talon News

Thanks, John!

We are happy Extended Door Talon customers. We received the talon with excellent instructions in two days. We installed it in less than an hour including reading the directions, gathering up the tools and putting everything away.
