Cool trick to get unstuck when no other way is available. Caution, I've read this can be hard on axles, and lockers.

I saw that video years ago (or one like it) and soon forgot that trick but it has surfaced a few places recently. It got my attention this time and I thought about whether I have a suitable stick of wood/pipe/whatever and a couple good straps in the van that could work. I do. Sadly I got stuck a few months back and didn't think of it. I'm not anxious to be stuck but I do want to try it out!

That seems to work, but it would seem to be super easy to snag a brake line, fender well or suspension part. If you had the clearance though it might be the difference between spending the night stuck or getting out.

Hey that's super cool! But does it not seem that all the related videos show that trick being used only in Mississippi-style mud pits....? Wonder how that approach would work in sand. Seems like it would work pretty good!

Gonna keep that get-unstuck trick in the repertoire for sure.

EDIT: Found this video about commercially-available "Truck Claws" (by virtue of YouTube playing more videos related to GAR's first video). These look like a great tool to have along to get unstuck! Super compact to store in your van. They show themselves extracting from axle-deep sand easily with 'em too. Way cool!

There is a product called Truck Claws that is a “real” version of that. With Truck Claws the base setup is only the width of the tire, you can add an extension to make it stick out like a 2x4.
