Espar furnace "ticking" noise

I just got an espar diesel furnace installed, used it a dozen times or so and it works great, even up with some elevation at Tahoe. I do notice a "tick-tick-tick" coming from the fuel pump which is somewhat annoying at night. I'm wondering if anyone else's does this. I'm also wondering if mounting it differently might reduce the noise. The sound might be amplified by having the pump banging on the vans sheet metal. Maybe mount it using a rubber gasket?

Re: Espar furnace "ticking" noise

BTW the fuel pump for the furnace is mounted under the vehicle where the fuel line is tapped into.

Yes they all do this but it seems some are louder than others. I think Charlie56 posted about this in more detail. I know he complained about it. Personally I don't have an issue with it and it doesn't bother me at night.

Re: Espar furnace "ticking" noise

Bruce, I believe mine is mounted using a rubber "hangar" looking thing, so no metal-on-metal. I did not originally hear the clicking noise, but we did on the last trip. Maybe I was simply sufficiently exhausted on the first few trips. I think we both had it installed by the same person, so I'd be surprised if yours is not already mitigated to the extent possible.

We are in the same boat as Daveb.... we have to work hard to hear the ticking at night inside the van.... outside I can hear it with no problem, but no bother inside. I do not know how ours is mounted.

Ticking? What ticking? Mine was installed by SMB and I haven't heard any ticking inside or out. Maybe one of the few benefits of getting older????

This sound is very hard to get rid of. Pulsing sound really carries through everything. Take the muffler off so the exhaust sound will over come it.

Re: Espar furnace "ticking" noise

I had to add the muffler to keep the hydronic from sounding like a jet engine. I could hear it from 100 yards away. Is the airtronic as loud? I feel the exhaust off either is loud enough.

That was probably tongue in cheek, but ... the ticking (pulsating), at least with mine, is only a problem when the blower is in a very slow speed mode. Once the jet engine effect takes over, the pump is working so fast that the pulses all blend together into a harmonious white noise. At slow speeds, think of it like a drippy faucet. I have taken the pump out of the rubber isolating bracket (as a test) and re-routed the fuel lines. It still resonates through the cabin using the cabinetry like a drum. Ear plugs work the best.

Note that you may want to check your fuel lines. I found the protection smurf tube heavily chafed where it passes above one of the body reinforcement members.
