Fiamma awning droop?
I'm just installing my Fiamma now... when opening it sags down quite a bit after it's opened a few feet - I only dared open it about three before having to drop the legs. And then it's a hassle to open a few feet, go and move the legs, open it a few more...
Shouldn't this awning support itself, at least to some degree? I'd be interested to hear how your awnings all behave.
I'll add pics if I get the chance.
Cheers!
Mike.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
You're not doing anything wrong. We do the same thing except that once we drop the legs, we tip them away from the van and then crank out the awning until the legs are tipping in. Reset them once more and extend the awning all of the way. It will be tight until just before "fully" extended...then it sags. At that point, crank it back in until the sag is gone and the awning is tight. Then set the legs in their final location.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Ditto- Except now I've fabricated brackets that allow me to hook the feet to the side of the van, and boy does THAT work neat!

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Cool - thanks both! I was worried that I'd got myself a broken one! Always happens the day before a trip! But glad to hear that it's all good.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Can I buy the brackets that hook the legs to the van commercially? Or would you post pics?
Thanks

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Call SMB for the Fiamma brackets. They're supposed to come with the awning, but sometimes they forget to put them in the truck when it leaves Fresno. After conceiving the brilliant design, and fabbing them, and then installing them, I saw some at SMB that were almost exactly like mine only cleverer.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
I think SMB TX had a box of those brackets. We talked about whether we wantes those added and decided not to at the time. They said they could add them any time.
I think the call to SMB is a good idea, they probably have some to give away.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Where did you attach the brackets to the van? Any pictures? Thanks.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
IIRC, they are low on the body, just below the increased curve, but the forward bracket was on the passenger cab door. We did not like that restriction. Someone does have photos somewhere ... I remember seeing them but not where...

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
I put the forward one on the front door just in front of, and directly adjacent to, the bottom hinge of the front side cargo door. I put the rear one at exactly the same height, just aft of the rear Bushwaker. The struts don't line up at perfect 90 deg. angles, but it doesn't seem to matter at all, and I really didn't want the front foot to land on the cargo door. I've deployed the awning in 20+ Ks of wind, and had no problem. As soon as I replace the passenger door which blew off, I'll be good to go.
