Hi Lift Jack. Question
Ok, so I clearly u understand the benefits of being able to lift the wheel, as well as using it as a winch or come a long. But if I needed to lift the van to change a tire in an off road situation... aluminess says dont use the shackles or bumper to lift I've read.. so what to do to change a tire? Where is my point to lift using the Jack?

Review this thread, pretty much answers all questions ... The more recent posts make mention of several alternatives - most popular seems to be the Hummer scissor jack.

For a Sprinter, Van Compass sliders have built in lift points on the ends designed specifically for this purpose, and they work great. Any chance your van has sliders that will allow you to do the same?

Best way to change a tire is a lift under the axle. Least amount of lift. Lifting the body will require maxing out the full extreme of suspension travel before the wheel comes off the ground.
Hi Lift with a tire hook/sling then block up the axle would be one way, I guess. But if I have to block up the axle, why not use the scissor jack to start with under the axle.

Thanks for the thread Twoxentrix. and other answers . I got a ton of info from that one. I think that the 4x4 block and my scissor jack will be just fine, but since I got that Hi Lift for 50 bucks I wanted to have a better understanding of what when and how its useful. Now on to installing that solar panel and maybe the furnace and a Revelco theft system.

Darkstar- when you say “my scissor jack”, just make sure whatever you have will handle the weight of your van...if you have an OEM jack and the Van weight is now considerably more than original (because of added modifications) then you’ll need something that will handle the added weight. If your not sure about the weight of your Van, take time to stop by a local weight station to put it on the scales - good to know what you have at each wheel anyway.

Good point. I've got a 3 ton floor jack that I may just put in the front bumper storage. Either way I'd like to see what the cow weighs.

I don't have a winch in back (front only, anybody know how to use that to pull the SMB backward?) and have always thought that I would do as my Jeep friends do and use it as a kinda come-a-long to pull from behind when stuck and needing to go backwards...Ihave been stuck with them in deep and the HILift inches it out (painfully slow, but...) ....

Heres a quick video that shows a backwards pull. Basically just have to have multiple blocks and anchors in the right points.

Just watched a few videos on backward winching including Oly11’s link. looked more sideways and some backwards. One video, the guy could not get that setup to work at all.
I think something like this More Power Puller w synthetic rope might be something to consider. 6,000lb dead lift, 12k pound drag/pull ratings for the 3 ton.
