Plus you have less lateral stability, since likely both tires won't be in full contact with the ground at some point- if you're on the slightest slope, I'd expect the van to shift sideways as soon as the traction is broken. It would probably save you from a dangerous situation because without other equipment you'll be lucky to get it up, and it won't be stable- so much so you'll probably not want to get near the tire!
You can jack via the hitches, don't get me wrong, but to me it seems like a "there are no other options" move. Before that I'd use a J-hook and sacrifice the bumper, but you should really just get a good bottle jack and be done with it.
