Honda EU2000 carb rebuild/cleaning.....with photos

My EU2000 is about five years old and was starting to run a little rough. I figured it was probably time to clean the carb, and thought I might as well take pictures and post up a little tutorial for those thinking about doing the same thing.

The whole process took about 60 minutes. While I was in there I also changed the oil. The spark plug is only 8 months old so I left it alone. After I was done, I went and got a gallon of fresh premium gas and it fired right up. It’s running a lot smoother now.

I can only assume this procedure is the same for the EU1000. EU3000 and above, you're on your own.

1. Locate your EU2000 and make sure it’s empty.

2. Remove the side panel.

3. Remove the air filter cover.

4. Remove both air filter elements.

5. Using an 8mm socket, remove the single bolt inside the airbox and the two nuts holding the airbox on to the carb.

6. Remove the crankcase breather hose.

8. Disconnect the fuel line

9. Carefully slide the carb off the studs, leaving the wires/cables connected.

12. Using a 10mm socket, remove the single bolt and washer holding the float bowl on.

15. Remove the float, and set float and pin aside.

16. Using a small blade screwdriver, remove the main jet retaining screw and main jet. Note the main jet orientation.

17. Now grab your carb cleaner and get to work.

Reassemble as you see fit. I suggest doing it in reverse order.

I don't own a Honda generator but I'm sure this is a timely and much appreciated write-up.

A friend has one and I'm totally amazed how great it works, how light it is and the amount of gas it doesn't use. If I had a need for a generator Honda would be my first and only choice---quality piece of gear.

I was amused to find that the inside of a carberator in a modern Honda engine is pretty much the same as the one in my 50s era Gravely Model L mower. Tried and true technology cannot be beat.

Great write up! I did this job on mine even after carefully and painstakingly using Seafoam, pure (no ethanol) gas, keeping it fresh and running it regularly after only about 2 years of ownership. Even great products need maintenance. Anyway this will be helpful to lots of people who put ethanol gas in their generator and leave it sitting for awhile.
