I like the idea of the Hummer jack but not $90 for the Agile adapter. Are there less expensive adapters? Note that I'm not a hard core Sportsmobiler. My use will be on-the-road but I like the idea of a good jack.

I can understand the reluctance about the adapter but know:
1: these are probably made in batches of 50 pieces or less.
2: they are super well made and an ingenious design that incorporates a cradle side for the axle and flips over to a flat side for frame/other.
3: they are specifically made to match the pin on the Hummer Jack and are coated to protect the metal from rust.

If you cut metal and weld you can likely make one of these in about four to six hours.

Similar concept, but this one is a saddle for a bottle jack - have no idea if they would fit the Hummer jack pin, may reach out to see if they can provide measurements...But as 1der states above, many here can/will testify for the Agile adapter as versitle and well made.

The EBay adapter probably will not work well with the Hummer pin. The ring edge would bear all the pressure and any deflection/misalignment.

Agile’s adapter has a flat surface and recess to accommodate the locating pin AND the flat surface around the pin.

Yeah, I thought it was expensive until I received it and looked at it. It is CNC machined aluminum and anodized and engraved. I did that for a living for most of my life. I could never manufacture that item at that low price. Besides, this is a boutique specialty item that is made for an exact purpose. If it was made overseas in quantities of a few hundred or a thousand at a time, the price would be lower. Just pay the man. When you use it the first time, you will know it was worth it to have your 10K# van lifted and remain stable.

The eBay bottle jack adapter doesn't look like it would properly fit the Hummer jack but 1Der already pointed that out. While its a good design and greatly increase safety of those types jacks its not nearly as "perfect" as the Agile part.

And we need to keep in mind its a one time purchase, its really an ad hoc part that won't wear out or go bad with age so it could be amortized over 20+ years?

I bought mine maybe 6 months ago, somewhat created a need to try the jack along with the adapter---it worked far, far better than any other arrangement I've used in the past to lift a wheel off the ground. I'm not the least bit unhappy with what I spent and would openly encourage anyone on-the-fence about buying the adapter to just jump in---you'll not be sorry with that purchase.

And if you get the Hummer jack in the bag Agile's adapter fits inside without any problems at all.

I guess the question I should have asked is:

If I'm not going to be off-roading, don't have 4x4 or large tires, is the stock Ford jack going to be adequate?

I've only had my E350 a short time so I've never had to use its jack (I suppose I should try it).

The stock jack will be adequate for a stock van. I personally would look for something a bit better or supplement the stock jack and carry a jack stand and a block. The jack is being used to change a flat tire.

The Hummer Jack is great for a lifted van. It has a higher lift and weight capability so typically no blocks would be needed to change a tire. For off-road situations it is low profile to start with so it can get under an axle where a wheel is partially buried.

Many here carry a bottle jack as well as the Hummer scissor jack - both have purpose.
I'd suggest going with a 3 ton+ jack (Have no idea what the stock jack is rated). You'll have to check your current clearance, then start shopping from there. Would also look for one that has some accessories included, allowing for a variety of contact options as you attempt a lift. The wider the base of the jack = more stability & enhanced safety...so if you decide to go with a bottle jack make sure it has a footprint proportionate to the job.

I also do no off-roading and still find the Hummer jack pretty much invaluable and IMHO irreplaceable---it does its job far, far better than any other lifting tool I've ever used. Do keep in mind I'm old enough to have used bumper jacks quite a bit while working under cars.

My issue with the stock bottle jack is its incredibly unstable and shaky when its extended. It has a very small base that severely limits its use to hard flat surfaces, it would be completely unreliable and dangerous on anything other than pavement.

When/if I'm changing tires I want the most secure and safe tools for the job. Sure the Hummer occupies more interior space but its capabilities so far exceed the stock piece that's room I'm happy to give up to work a little safer. Yes I might not ever need a jack but its there if the need arises.

And once again its a one-time purchase so costs very little in the long run.
