Re: Interior coffee maker?

Not true, or at least I couldn't find where it said anything about boiling 8 day old coffee for the 3rd time (as my dad often does).

Re: Interior coffee maker?

Jage, your dad is a man who understands that coffee was made for man, not man for coffee. As to the Wikipedia article, it's pretty comprehensive, but check this out: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/sou ... oors/80582
Sorry to say that medical necessity has restricted me to decaf, except when I'm in Greece, where I allow myself some real stuff as described in the Wiki article. Okay, I'll confess - normally on the SMB trips I drink tea.

Re: Interior coffee maker?

I use a 4 cup 12 volt coffee maker that does take forever, but it's nice to not have to worry about running down the battery or turning on the inverter. I just set it up to turn on the night before, then in the morning all I have to do is reach an arm out of my sleeping bag and flip the switch. Then I just wait for the gurgling noise that signals that it's finished before venturing out of my nice warm bag!

Re: Interior coffee maker?

Thanks for the replies! I just don't think a 4 cup would work for us. There is usually about 2+ cups in one of my mugs! Maybe I drink too much coffee.......my job drove me to it I guess.

Re: Interior coffee maker?

I use a stove top espresso maker. Fast and packs a punch. A shot of Kahlua and I'm there.

Re: Interior coffee maker?

IMHO, a coffee press is the way to go. The best option I found for Jeep camping is a Jetboil. Very compact and boils water FAST.

The key to using it for coffee is a basic meat thermometer. Drop the thermometer in the hole on top and heat the water to the ideal brewing temp (195-205). Drinking a fresh cup made from boiling coffee can be less than pleasant... Not that I know anyone foolish enough to do that. That would be just plain stupid...

Re: Interior coffee maker?

Coffee is a big deal for us so this subject concerned me. I just spent the weekend at Kennedy Meadows after buying a Keurig B30 pod coffee maker. I have one 4D house battery. We made 4 cups in succession without a battery drop below 12.25. With the motor running the voltage stays near 14v. I have a 200 amp altinator. I couldn't be happier. Best, RD
