Re: iphone guru wanted........
curious what you're doing for video and if using the iphone?
thinking of a solution to get video on the road and finding a way to play it on a larger screen.
thoughts?

Re: iphone guru wanted........
I don't understand whether navigation apps work in airplane mode. I use airplane mode when hiking so as not to burn electrons. My Motorola Photon worked fine (android users: Google's MyTracks is great & minimalist) but the apps Ive looked at don't seem to work offline even though GPS is on. Thoughts or recommendations?

Re: iphone guru wanted........
I do some video and usually just export it to a laptop. It can use a bunch of space.
GPS is turned off in airplane mode. You can look at a map you've already loaded, but you won't get any real time location. Using it to navigate with location services on burns quite a bit of power; if you're also downloading maps via cell that uses more. Turning off BT helps, but the iPhone isn't real good for continuous navigation without an external power source except for shorter stuff. You can, however, turn it on, get a fix and make a waypoint, and then turn it off. As I mentioned in Motion X you can download the relevant maps before the hike so you can use them without a wifi or cell signal. If you jailbreak it, you can use it with an external BT GPS, which is pretty cool. There may be some newish apps that do that even on a non-jailbroken phone, but right now the only one I'm familiar with is the TomTom GPS cradle.
I'm not familiar with your audio device but generally there are two connection methods. One, usually requiring a special (and often pricey) cable that connects the other device with the iphone/ipod so that the other device can control the audio of the Apple unit. My MINI has one, for example. But I just use a mini-jack to the aux in and let the iPhone play either streaming music or shuffle through my stuff.

Re: iphone guru wanted........
GPS remains on in iOS5 but, as I indicated earlier, I haven't seen how it is used.

You shouldn't have to jailbreak for this. Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot on your iPhone. You can connect to your laptop via USB or Bluetooth.

Interesting, my phone doesn't have that option.
|
Mine is in Settings > Network > Set Personal Hotspot. (I'm running iOS 5).
Haven't tried it out yet.

iphone guru wanted........
Works great but sucks battery big time. Only problem is if you get a call while hotspot is on, it freezes and/or drops your wifi signal, on Verizon anyway.

Re: iphone guru wanted........
Got I phone working and added a few recommended apps. Thanks!
My SMB has a Kenwood 6960 Stereo that I want to play music from my iphone thru?
I have a USB connector also sticking out of my dash.
I also have a "line in" connection on dash.
How do I get music to play through this thing?

Re: iphone guru wanted........
I read pages 6 and 29, and when iphone is connected thru USB port, it shows up on the Kenwood screen. Shows song, title, etc.... but no sound? Tried hitting every button on the thing, but no sound?
If I unplug the USB connector it plays fine out if iphone, but when plugged in, not sure why no sound?
