I didn't want to hijack the current thread entitled "Buckstop Bumper - Dual Swing out" but I was wondering about using something like the Yakima Backswing Hitch Adapter for relatively light loads like a Honda 2000i generator. It's made for bicycle racks but it looks like it would work and I'd be way below it's 350# capacity. I also won't be off-roading.
I have the BackSwing and use it on my SMB for my three-bike Yakima platform rack. It's very sturdy and I'm sure would hold the Honda generator fine. I've had it for a while and am happy with it.
Another option if you wanted to save some $$ is to find one of the older Thule swing-away bike racks and just ditch the bike part. These racks can be found fairly cheap in CL or whatever (I found one at a grade sale once for $25!) as the actual bike rack part is t too good. The swing away is really robust and solid steel.
