Mostly Useless Technical Info on Onan 2.8KW Gennies

I was staring at the ID plate on my Onan Microlite 2800, and I started to wonder what all of the option identification codes mean.

First--clearly, I need to get a life.

OK, back to useless technical information:
R086-2: Unit is set up for 120 volt, single phase, 2-wire output.
A223-2: Genset is UL listed.
C162-2: Fuel is gasoline.
Z497-2: Genset is set up with a standard RV mounting system.
SPEC-K: This unit is from production run #K. Every time they modify something (like sourcing a carb from a different supplier), they change the SPEC letter designation.

And if you read this all the way through, then I'm not the only one on this forum who needs to get a life.

Nice decoding. I have the Onan on my van as well and removed it when I bought the van (used) to inspect and service it. I replaced the air and fuel filters as well as the plug. You don't have to remove it to service it but I wanted to pull the cover and see what kind of condition it was and if it was rusted. All was well.

Based on a tip from a forum member I met at the Fiesta Island meet I ran some Chevron Techron cleaner through it while out of the van. Runs smooth now and is nice not to have to carry one in the box anymore.

I've used Seafoam for keeping the gennie clean, but have never thought of using Chevron Techron cleaner. Thanks, that's a great idea.

I believe the forum member I learned that from was told that tip from his city yard mechanic who works on Onan generators on a regular basis. I have read others use the Seafoam with success also.
