I'm leaning toward taking this dish off. I went to the Datastorm users forum. Lots of tech talk about finding satellites, making sure you get constant software updates, syntax must be correct.... Sounds like going back to MS-DOS.
Anyone wanna buy this stuff cheap? It's in Santa Barbara

Check with the RV Satellite Internet Yahoo group..... I have found them to be incredibly helpful, and they have a number of folks in the business.

If you're horse camping within cell range, you can get the dongle receiver thingy (that's the technical name I learned from Jage!) and plug it into your laptop. Probably a 3G type of unit.

Hi Jeffrey
I have iPhone with ATT and broadband on my laptop with Sprint so unless I'm really out in the middle of nowhere, I've got internet already.

We have two blackberries and an AT&T aircard for our laptop, with a cellular antenna,.... but we would like to have an internet connection when we are out and away from the cell network..... I think we will be pulling the trigger on a tripod system.

I will say that I considered satellite IP connectivity but passed because a lot of the time I will have at least minimal data coverage from cellular networks, so it wasn't worth the tradeoff for me. And I'm someone who works remotely every day over the internet.
One thing I will mention, that other research will lead you to, is that IP over satellite has a slightly higher latency factor, so regardless of the bandwidth you get, things like online gamine, voice over IP (skype) and even different sorts of remote desktop control may not work very well.

I added a 3 watt cellphone booster and truckers antenna to my Verizon aircard so I can get internet access most places that I camp in my Sportsmobile

Winvest,
Where did you get your booster and antenna? I have a Sprint aircard I use but would like to bump up the reception.
Thanks
