Mounting jerry cans on rear door

I have an Aluminess spare tire swing arm on the driver side rear bumper, and nothing on the right. I would like to add 2 jerry cans of spare diesel but can not afford another Aluminess swing arm for the passenger side rear door. Is it possible to mount a bracket directly to the rear door? I figure the weight will be about 92 lbs with 10gals fuel, 2 jerry cans and the bracket. Wonder if the door hinges will take the weight, but more that the door metal itself can handle the weight, especially with bumps and pounds of off-roading.

If you make some bracing so the weight is hung from the edges, it should be fine. Before Aluminess, all spare tire carriers were door mounted.

My 98 SMB had the door mounted tire carrier. 22 years and 116,000 miles with no problems when I sold it this spring. I’m sure a 16” tire on steel rim pics the steel carrier wasn’t very light.
