New Fire Extinguisher
I just got me a few of these compact and highly effective extinguishers.
Element Advanced Fire Protection https://elementfire.com/products/element-e50
Advantages, size of a road flare, leaves no mess or corrosive residue, does not expire and needs no maintenance, and it has a 50 second discharge as apposed to the 8 to 12 seconds the 3lb cylinder that came with our van.
Only down side is they cost 3 to 4 times as much as the cylinder unites. But for me, all the advantages are well worth the cost.
Check them out, may fit your needs.
Cheers,
John

Neat.
Since it took me a moment to find this, here's how it actually works:

Having successfully dealt with some car fires, the extra run time is a big deal. As is not having to hesitate to use it.
But no matter what, carry something. Even the cheap tiny ones can make a huge difference if you have them on hand right away.

Agreed!
A very, very good alternative to the 5 pounder I carry---so compact it would be 100% necessary for me to stow it well within sight and reach if ever needed. It could easily get lost inside my van all too quickly.
Not criticizing Jay's video but it would have been great seeing it deployed on an actual fire, something similar to an underhood or cabin interior to see it's true effectiveness.
If this extinguisher is just equal to the traditional versions its lofty price would be well justified.

I'm really liking this concept, especially to carry in my Bronco. With all the bouncing around off-road, the agent in a standard fire extinguisher tends to compact in the bottom of the extinguisher, rendering the extinguisher more or less useless when it's most needed.
I wish the Element fire extinguisher holders (e.g. roll bar mount) were more reasonably priced.

Looks and sounds like a fantastic product!
I've put out several other people's car fires (my neighbor's engulfed kitchen, too) with hand held dry chem extinguishers.
My biggest complaint is they don't last long enough for their size.
I used the one in my van, and two from the trailer I was towing, to put out a guys 50 Merc chop-top lead-sled, a couple years ago.
The fire started under the dash, and the fire was just about out of control when I got there, flames juuuuust started licking the headliner. My single 5 pounder made me feel good, but didn't put it out. It took a total of (3) 5lb ABC dry chems to do the job.
If you get a 20 pounder, they're just too bulky, and you're just not going to carry it at all. Carry a couple of these things, and you're set!

For the places most of us go, you are on_your_own when it comes to putting out a fire. Best be prepared

Wonder how it stacks up to the Tundra can-type fire extinguisher? Never had the chance to use one but keep a can of this spray handy at home in the kitchen. I purchased them being you get two for 25 bucks. I guess these canned extinguishers leave some residue (biodegradable though) where the Element stick doesn't. I also like how he mentioned you can still breath the air after it's deployed. If you're trapped that could be a game changer.
[edit] I'd consider a group buy as well.
