This is in tended to protect emergency responders in case of a crash, as well prioritize the response. If they see liquid leaking from a red can, you can bet they will work much faster to get you free from the wreckage.

Also, some plastic water containers may be made of a plastic that may be degraded by fuel.
My water cans are made of "food grade plastic" and I also would not want to take a chance of adding fuel to them for both reasons stated. Mine are army green and stamped "water".

Re: New water cans

The LCI cans are HDPE (#2 plastic). Anyone with a Scepter fuel can care to check? The material indication is on the bottom, at least on the water cans.

I won't ever carry anything but water in mine. The potential, and consequence, of an accident are far too high for my liking.

I should add that I believe that the cap is different, so I don't know if the water can lid would seal against leakage of dangerous fuel fumes.

Re: New water cans

The cap is the same as shown on the tan colored cans. It's got that little bleed valve or whatever that is.

Re: New water cans

Herb...

Can you provide the dimensions on these cans when you get a chance? I need to replace some steel Wedco water cans from Expedition Exchange and they need to fit the bumper carrier we already have.

Thanks

Re: New water cans

If the question is whether the material of the Scepter MFCs and MWCs are different, the answer is YES.

Someone mentioned that the MWCs are a food grade plastic. The MFCs are not.

The lids do differ (as someone said) with the MWC having a small vent valve and a small pour opening on top of the lid.

There are also differences in the type of o-ring used. There are viton and neoprene. I assume the viton is for fuel and neoprene for water.

If we need specifics on the material markings, I can look tonight.

Re: New water cans

I can add that there are slight size differences in the Scepter MWC and MFC.... this bit us when we had our bumper box built and we did not know there were slight differences. For most applications it may not make any difference, but we were operating under very tight tolerances.
