Re: Pico Chairs

I also used the Walkstool quite a bit - until I came across the Helinox Chair One. Way more comfortable and almost as lightweight and compact. http://helinox.com/chair-one.php

Re: Pico Chairs

Well, I don't want to hijack but it looks like this might be turning in to a general discussion of chairs. My apologies to OP if this is not the case.

Over the years I've gotten tired of soft bag chairs because they are so cheaply made. I'm sure the OZ quality ones and the like are better though. Also, they keep getting bigger and bigger. Some are as big around as a basketball in their bags nowadays and storing a couple of these is tough in a van.
I found these on Amazon, and they work great. They aren't super light but not heavy either. They are no bigger around than a softball in their bags, so packing a few away takes less space. They are about 4' tall in the bag. Also, they are a vinyl kind of material which is supportive mesh that doesn't stay wet. Water won't soak in to them, a quick wipe with a cloth after rain and they are ready. No rust yet after about 6 months of frequent use.

Re: Pico Chairs

I found this chair at REI:

https://www.gcioutdoor.com/directors-ch ... ounger.htm

The seat and back are two separate pieces, so it doesn't make me slouch like most chairs with a one piece seating surface does. And packs down small: 2.5" x 17" x 17".

We returned two of the smaller, backless version earlier this year. The seams came unstitched on both chairs. I guess you weren't supposed to sit on them.

Bass Pro sells what looks like the same chair. Sturdy but huge folded up. I also felt the arms were not that sturdy for me. The Oz tent does look like it's better built though.

I break down chairs (no pun intended) into a couple classes which kind of relate to each other

Cold weather vs. Warm weather and light duty vs. heavy duty. The Pico is not heavy duty.

In cold weather I don't want an open back or mesh like I'd rather have when it's hot. Regardless of the weather, I need a chair to fit my weight. Seems an average weight capacity is 225-250lbs. Like every stitch of clothing at REI, none of those fit me.
So the perfect chair for me would be one rated for 300-350lbs that stows like a Pico chair, but has a high mesh back and comes with an insulated flap that covers for cold weather. A big plus is having footing that doesn’t sink into soft sand/soil plus has a drink holder/storage. I also want a chair that sits higher than most. The Bass Pro chair is comfortable but you sink low in it.

Guess I’m just going to have to purchase something like this and live with it:

Re: Pico Chairs

I have a pair of these Alps chairs. Nothing stylish about them, no special features like fold up tables or cup holders, but they are sturdy. Fold flat, rather than into a long rectangular shape, but flat is fairly easy to stow as well.

Re: Pico Chairs

Actually those are some of the best I've used but are somewhat long when folded to fit under the back bed in my EB-50.
