Re: Portable Fire place - Coleman any input or alternates?

Good link......Definately worth a look. I like the multi purpose use and how compact it is. I hope someone gives us some insight on the operation.

Re: Portable Fire place - Coleman any input or alternates?

The Volcano is a great BBQ not too sure it's a good portable fire place, never used it for that. For both BBQ and Fire Place you can't beat the Pit-2-Go......... except that weight is a definite factor.

The Volcano is kind of small for a fire, and it lost its shape pretty quick. I am now kind of hooked on the Cob BBQ for the small very portable cooker, and it packs nice to. Not nearly the quality of cooker as the volcano but is much sturdier.

CJ-

Fantastic, thanks for the info. As I said, I might just try volcano before going to one of the excellent though more expensive choices (except the wash tub) listed above, if only because I can always return to Costco. I'll try as cooker and fireplace and relate my experiences to the board.

Best-
Steve

We have the volcano and love it. It can use three sources of fuel: wood, charcoal or propane and we have tried all three. It collapses to the size and weight of a dutch oven. The legs allow it to be put on any surface without concerns about damage ie. put it at table height so you don't have to bend over to cook or put the campfire on the picnic table. It is not a roaring campfire with wood but it provides the ambience and heat if you are close to it. We don't leave home without it docd

Docd,

Great pics in action! Looks like what they would use on the box.

Does it give off enough heat when using as a fire pit?

Re: Portable Fire place - Coleman any input or alternates?

The amount of heat it gives off as a firepit is limited to the size of the wood that can be placed in it. When winter camping we just about sit on top of it to get warm! Most of our camping is at higher altitudes so the Mr. Buddy Heater doesn't work and a low impact wood fire is a better option.

Re: Portable Fire place - Coleman any input or alternates?

Bill it will fit BUT! Let me warn you it is heavy and very awkward getting it in and out of that hole. LOL, basement is what I call it. The Back Dr. would stop you from doing it.

If your careful of how you turn and stretch getting it in and out then it's doable....it's where I keep mine.

If we stay put for more than a day or two I get it out and love to cook on it and have a big fire in it after the eats. Works perfect!!
