Re: ROTOPAX gas cans

I have two mounted behind my Aluminess box. They have rubbed the cargo door a little.

Re: ROTOPAX gas cans

Having a couple extra gallons of gas would be nice for those (hopefully never) OH SH!#! moments. I am thinking about a Rotopax mounted stealthily behind the swing-out box as some here have done.

Any of you with Rotopax mounted behind your swing-out boxes... how did you actually mount those things to keep the thin aluminum sheet from bending or tearing from the weight of the gas cans bouncing around over time? Did you reinforce the box wall inside? I see Rotopax makes a back plate presumably for this kind of application... is that enough added support, or is a vertical support of some nature needed too?

Also... what did you use to seal the holes through the wall? I'd like to minimize the water and crud that gets inside.

And... if I can fit the thicker 3-gallon pack without rubbing against the van doors, will that be too much weight for the sheet metal to support? I'd like to have even more gas, but the space is limited, and I don't wish to start hanging too much stuff all over the place.

Any info (and pictures if you can!) would be appreciated.

Re: ROTOPAX gas cans

I have one mounted like macmcintire I use for the Generator. It seems to me working fine and have had no problems. I mounted it so it would rest on the lower bar to take the stress off the box.
