Scangage

So many listees were enthusiastic about the Scangage I thought I'd get one to monitor RPM and boost. My rig is an '02 7.3 Powerstroke and the tach seems fine. The boost, however, seems inaccurate. Are these engines really developing 12 psi at idle? My VW Tdis idled at 0 psi or less. Also the temp gauge only reads -40F.

Has anyone else tried a Scangage II on their Powerstoke 7.3?

Tom

Re: Scangage

I have the 6.0L not the 7.3L, but my boost at idle is around 0.2 - 0.3psi. 12 psi doesn't sound right.

Re: Scangage

It's just the difference between absolute and relative pressure. The absolute pressure(psia) is measured from a vacuum while relative pressure (psi) is measured from ambient (~14.7psia).

So, the 12psi(a) you read is actually 2.7psi of vacuum.

Re: Scangage

The Scangauge manual doesn't say anything about subtracting 14.7psi to read the gauge. It goes up to 21 psi when accelerating hard. It seems to have good power, so 6 psi of total boost doesn't sound right either. My TDI's saw 18-19psi. I'm wondering what other Scangauge users are seeing on the MAP setting.

Thanks for the replies
Tom

Re: Scangage

I guess the other thing that would be beneficial is -- how do you accurately calibrate the thing? People say its much better after calibrating, but I can't figure it out. Anyone?

Re: Scangage

The lowest reading I've seen is in the 11's while going downhill in a lower gear. The highest reading was around 30.

Re: Scangage

For some of the "guages" provided with an X-Guage or ScanGuage II, there are some settings so that the guage can translate the inputs and show us the appropriate output.

For our 6.0PSD this was the case. We could set the guage to show instantaneous MPG, but untill we had also set the guage to know it was a 6.0 PSD, the output was not correct.

THis is what it sounds like is happening to you.

Have you made any such adjustments to your Scanguage?
