Swing Table Solution

The following was inspired after watching a TV show on luxury jets.

How about this for a solution to a casual table that swings?

The table is supported by a ½â€

Add cupholder holes that you can add 'caps' to so you don't lose things when you're not putting drinks in. Also, a raised, rounded lip around the outside isn't a bad idea to keep pencils and stuff (or spills) from escaping.

OK,
finally got around to going outside w/ the camera to take a few pics of the cabinet for y'all

it uses a locking sort of support that hinges out of the way sorta like to folding tables but smaller if you get my drift

probably would help if I took a shot of the support hinge - oops! you'll have to wait...

cheers,

D

Charlie56,

You have come the closest to what my wife asked about when she started this thread. good job.

...so where can find these?

...or when will you start marketing them?

The key to what we are looking for is somthing that hides away and takes up little to no room, but ends up acting much like a TV-tray would at home by the couch.

Greg I was pulling up www.ram-mount.com to link to and saw this image in their product slide show... immediately thought of your side table project. Since I hadn't heard any success stories I thought I'd throw this out as a possiblity:

Jage,

Thanks for thinking of me... so far Charli has come the closest to what we are thinking about. We are exploring building out his idea.

We are going to use a RAM mount for the PC up front, in some configuration, and we may use RAM mounts in a couple of other areas.

...but I am not sure given the foot print of the laptop mounts that they would work as an eating or working ssurface at the goucho.

We will keep all informed as the van gets closer and we get further on the side table designs.

Yeah, but you could make the table surface from MDF or better yet, plywood and cover with shelf paper. There are so many RAM mounts that twist and turn and tilt... just get the laptop holder but not the final laptop mount. Get one of their connectors that can bolt to the back of plywood (we did this before on something with RAM mounts), and you've got whatever you want...

....but where would you attach the RAM Mount?

Don't get me wrong, I think RAM Mounts are great; I bet we end up with 5 or 6 in our SMB.
...but we are looking for something more TV-tray-like.... small, lightweight, easy to store away.

How would you get a RAM mount to do this at each end of a gaucho? and also have the ability to disappear from sight...
