SMB Step

Happy New Year All:

Show me your step or platform to gain access to your SMB while camping. I have a 06 EB SMB. Not getting any younger and the wife’s had knee replacement.

Thanks

Mike

I have a folding step. It works and it's easy to store

When we first went step shopping, it was more for our now almost 14-year-old black lab. But, as humans, I gotta say we are very happy with our hot tub steps from Amazon! I Dremel'd off the 'locking tabs' so I can easily take them apart and store them in a cabinet.

Viva La Vida (Pschitt's wicked van) has the best solution I've seen. I can't easily link it from here since it's buried deep in his build thread somewhere but if you have a few hours read through his thread. It's much better than whatever is on TV.

I took my dad on a spontaneous road trip through UT, AZ, and southern CA last month. He's getting older and I bought us a couple of these one step things at home depot as we left town. They're a little narrow but fold and stow very nicely and turned out to be so useful my wife and I kept using them on the drive home. In the dark I worried they might get kicked or moved and not be where expected -- so eventually I might add sliders or more permanent steps.

(For the record I also picked up a ladder so he could access the pop-top. Thats more annoying to have with us in the van but turns out to be really nice during middle of the night forays into the great outdoors. It will probably end up going with us on trips as well).

After breaking two of those "super strong" plastic folding steps I got this one:

I'm not a heavy guy at all but those plastic steps can't handle winter usage, motorcycle boots, and uneven surfaces. I'm sure they are great around the house for wifey or at a smooth grass RV camp but out in the woods they are about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

This is what Claude has, or something very similar. Prices are all over the place. I got mine used for 25 bucks.

The way he installed them is the best install I've seen. They can be used for passenger front or in front of the 60 door. I have a similar set and love them. They work really well. I uploaded a couple pix from a trip we took over the summer to my gallery. Neither pix is focused on the stairs, but you get the idea. I'd post the pic, but can't figure out how on my phone.
