Re: Spray Paint System

TeleSteve and JWA: Gun goes back today and I will purchase the Professional Gun mentioned by TeleSteve. My compressor has two outputs which I believe are connected together by a manifold, so I think I can just hook the Portable Air Tank to the second output by a three foot rubber hose lead. I will take pictures of how I hook up the Portable Air Tank. I appreciate all your help.

Re: Spray Paint System

You know the port with the pressure gauge is going to be direct to tank, chances are the other two are as well. But remove the valves on the portable which you need to do anyway unless you plan on using a schraeder valve on your gun. If the two ports on the brass pillar are direct to tank, just connect one output of the compressor to the portable tank and the output of the tank to the gun via whatever filters you choose to use.

If it doesn't have them, it would be handy to use quick-release fittings on both sides of the portable and to add another to the end of the schraeder valve hose as well. That way you have a handy air tank for filling up your tyres and you don't have to disassemble anything if you just need one component. I recommend keeping the hose as short as you practically can, just makes it easier when they get all twisted up.

Now you have to show us the finished product once you get painting!

Re: Spray Paint System

That portable tank has NPT threads in the tank....I would just pitch the other stuff and buy a brass street T and screw it in the tank with teflon tape.....so schematically your tank is just sitting Teed to the air line.

If the tank has two NPT fittings make one an inlet and the other an outlet. Are your air hoses terminated with male NPT threads?

...I have never used a pryopen......

Re: Spray Paint System

I assume that the 1/4" I.D. air compressor lines are NPT. They don't have a o-ring or washer.

P-y-r-o-pen not pryopen!

I will post pictures of the setup before I spray a thing. Thanks guys for all your help!

Your connection has the tanks essentially in parallel......You will get a bit more benefit plumbing the tanks in series.......that way you'll end up with the portable tank close to the gun.

Either way will be better than no second tank......and as TeleSteve mentioned, your compressor may drive that gun just fine by itself.......the more distance you put between the compressor outlet and the dryer, the dryer your air will be. No big deal when running pneumatic tools or filling tires, but it is when painting.

NPT threads are tapered.......you can tell by looking at them......for male threads anyway......

You should be able to get a brass M/F reducer to go from 1/2 NPT or 3/4 NPT to the 1/4 NPT on your hoses from Lowes or Home Depot.....about $6. Typical rubber air hoses are NPT male both ends...although not always....screw the hoses directly into the yellow tank; use some teflon tape.
