T-Bras

Can anyone on the forum give me any information on where I can purchase a T-Bras style hood protector that fits a 1992 to 2007 I believe E-series Ford van? i'm having quite a time trying to find one yet I see them quite often in the forum gallery. Thanks, Gary.

I'm guessing you are referring to the Sportsmobile hood protectors? If so:

Unless you remove on a regular basis to wash underneith, trapped moisture, dirt and grit will grind away the paint. With thousands of miles of dirt roads, my 2001 shows no damage a bra would have prevented.

^^ Agree. I had one on a previous vehicle and never again. On my SMB I just have a regular bug deflector and it works great, although I guess maybe not as cool looking.

I agree, they need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. I had one on a Porsche for about a year, and it completely destroyed the paint, but I had never removed it for cleaning.

3M and others I'm sure make a paint protecting clear film that would probably work every bit as well as the typical bra I've seen over the years. For simply keeping flying rocks away from the hood that would be my choice. Its a one time purchase and installation.

Thanks for the advice everyone........at this point I'm leaning towards a carbon fiber wrap thing for the whole hood that looks like it may do the job. Gary

My experience is the hoods on these vans don't get a lot of stone chips because they're so far off the ground.

That said, if you really want the look of a bra, the clear film JWA mentioned could be applied underneath it to help keep it from damaging the paint.
