Tire Pressure Gauge Recommendations

Tire Pressure Gauge Recommendations

We have a 2014 Sprinter SMB and would like recommendations on what others have found to be reliable and accurate tire pressure gauges. Since our Sprinter has an onboard tire pressure monitoring system, now I feel compelled to keep our tire pressures accurate within a couple pounds of specifications. We have found this difficult to do with a pop-out type gauge, even the more expensive ones. I think this might be due to the lack of granularity of measurement, particularly in the 50 to 70 pound range. We purchased a digital gauge which worked quite well in terms of accuracy but it only lasted about six months and doesn’t seem to have a way to replace the batteries or turn it off completely when not in use. Can anyone recommend a digital tire gauge that is reliable and accurate with a user replaceable battery and an off switch?

I’ve never used it but most everything ARB makes is done right. They make both digital and analogue ones I believe.

I use a couple of analog gauges. As mentioned the ARB I have is a good choice and is also the air chuck so I can fill with it. Then I have a Mac Tools gauge that is only a gauge. It's nice to have a hold feature so you can test pressure and then be able to look at the measurement w/o the gauge being attached to the valve. Usually the better tool makers like Snap On or Mac make some nice stuff.

I've got a few 'good quality' dial gages. They vary in the 5 to 10 psi range when measuring the same tire. It's very hard to trust any of them. For those out there who want true accuracy, have your gage checked at a calibration service, one that certifies measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, plug and thread gages) for manufacturing companies. Also, If you can find a pressure gage that reads 0 -60 or 0-50 psi at full scale, it may be more accurate.

I like the options for the different types of chucks, and I like that it holds the pressure reading until you release the air.

I use a gauge similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTUA2AX...a-c9bf0ef24ff2. It’s a simple electronic gauge that works well for checking pressure, though not useful if you are going to air up/down frequently.
Is it accurate? Who knows, but it is within a couple psi of the TPMS.

OK, Accu-Gage offers a straight, a right-angled, and an angled swivel chuck... so which one is preferable for a typical 4X4 tire and wheel? Is one of these considered to be more versatile than another? All are priced the same on Amazon...

Paul, IMO the best air chuck is a combination of personal preference and your rims. Depending on how the tire valves are in your rims (some come out at an angle, some come out perpendicular to the rim surface) will make a difference.

For me, the angled chuck offers the best compromise.
