The Trasharoo trash bag, which mounts on a swing-out spare tire, was discussed here a couple of years ago. I’ve never paid much attention to them since we don’t have a swing-out spare tire. But SMB West has them on display in their waiting room and while waiting for a solar panel problem on our van to be checked out, I realized that I might be able to mount one of these trash bags on our rear roof ladder.
The Trasharoo bag comes with 3” wide straps designed to criss-cross behind the spare tire. Both top straps had male buckles with female buckles on the lower straps. But swapping out one female for a male on the top straps, I could wrap these top straps over a horizontal rung and then around the vertical ladder rails a and then snap them together, holding the bag in place. The lower straps simply wrap around the lower portion of the ladder and snap together. Once fitted, I cut the excess straps off and melted the cut ends with a propane torch to keep them from raveling.
