Van Jack - Page 2

So, if I have the Hi-Lift jack, where is the proper place to put the jack to jack up the van? I have never used it before, and was poking around, thinking the only place I could put it would be under the bumpers. I have Ruenell bumpers front and rear. Is this the spot?

Kind of depends on the weight of your rig and how much of a chance safety wise you want to take. I've seen some lift off the bumpers recovery shackles...myself I'd be very leery. There is a device that goes into your receiver but my van is way too heavy for that. I have the correct rims and the lift adaptor to lift the wheel where after its up high enough I can slide a stand under the axle. I feel better using my bottle jack for that if possible. Hi Lift is moore of a last chance jack.

Has been discussed here before. Believe it's the ARB exhaust jack.

I bought one of those from Australia for my Land cruiser before I learned about the HiLift Jack.. Tried it when I needed it once and it didn't do a good job.. Takes up a lot of space too.
If you van is lifted, it most likely might not work..

HiLift and the accessories is the way to go..

This is the "BEST" bottle jack around...and they are made here in the USA baby.
I carry the 5 ton in my van and have 4 in the shop, they are not cheap china made jacks but I have seen them hold up a humvee for 30 days without moving an inch!

I like the idea of the cables but noticed they are using a lighter weight jack. If those cables were to let go it might let the jack slam into the rig. When we lifted Steve's van I was worried about the jack moving into the body. You must keep the jack situated so it doesn't. Not saying that cables won't help but something more heavy duty would make me feel better.

I like the plate but is it rated for as much as the High Lift extreme jack can lift?

I use a hydraulic jack bottle jack I got from NAPA. Not made in the USA but plenty beefy. And remember, given what we do with jacks, they will all leak and loose fluid eventually. Just add ATF to top it off and you should be able to keep even a cheap Chinese one going for a long time.

I have seen this in action, thier is not that much tension on the cables even while jacking a vehicle up you can grab the cables and wiggle them while the vehicle is in the air.I was on post when I seen it in action, it lifted a "APC" Two front tires off the ground with ease without having to worry about it slamming into it.

May I point out that the first and second tires are inflated, and the plate deforms the car tire? I stopped watching.

Also the cables can't be to keep it from going forward into the vehicle, there is no vector component in that direction. And of course they would be loose, because nothing is going wrong, the question is what happens when the jack/vehicle decides to go over sideways?

It just seems like a lot of stuff to carry to make a hi-lift safer, when really if you're already on flat pavement, chocked and all that it seems like it would be about as safe (which is not very when you're talking hi-lift vs. 11,000lb van)
