Which tire chain for 35/12.5 R 17 ?
I did a search but didn't find much about that.
Does some of you have experience with tire chain on 35/12.5 R 17 tires? I would like a "diamond design" and if possible a model to install without having to move the vehicule.
Any advice will be appreciatied. Thanks! ;-)

Wouldn't we all. Other than air operated "automatic chains" for commercial vehicles, I think you're out of luck.
The key to chaining up efficiently is to put them away properly, ie. not tangled and turned inside out.

I don't think so, they are many chains you can mount without moving the vehicle in Europe. But maybe not here?
Thanks E350. I saw that post but these chains at not "diamond", which is much better to steer the vehicle.
Any other experience?
Thanks

Re: Which tire chain for 35/12.5 R 17 ?
Here you go:
Their ratchet system would seem to obviate the need for CAM locks (which is the only way to not have a floppy chain on regular transverse chains IMO). Although I haven't had to order chains for years, I have purchased at least two sets of V-Bar with CAM locks from Tirechain.com and they were simply superb to deal with.
But this is what they warn about diamond chains:
"DIAMOND QUICK FIT
featured in Outdoor Explorer Magazine:
Most popular choice for light truck tire chains. Diamond tire chain insures a smooth ride with less vibration and noise. Maximum traction insures minimal brake distance and skidding. D-Link pattern Links for extended life and traction. Available in both a heavy duty 4.5 mm cross chain a type SAE CLASS "S" for restricted clearance requirements. Exclusive Ratchet Tensioner for quick installation and removal. Comes with a zippered storage case>. Not recommended for off-road, mud, plowing, diesel, or heavy duty trucks."
http://tirechain.com/16INCHTRUCKCHAINS.HTM
I have a diesel. It is a heavy vehicle. I have no doubt that I would wear through the center chain quickly in California where they require you to put chains on with a hint of snow. (That is unless you have 4x4 and M/S rated tires, which I do, so I no longer use chains. BTW as also stated in the thread cited above, with 4x4 I much prefer studded snow tires over chains. That said, there is nothing as close to a tractor than a diesel SMB in 4x4 low with chains. YRMV.)

Thank you very much for the tip E350. I only need chains for deep snow, not for mud or rock crowling, so it should be fine.

That ratchet tightening system has a rubber strap incorporated into it. What's
the advantage of a chain and ratchet if there's a bungy cord at the other end?

Good eye Silver350. I think you have a point. I hate anything rubber on tire chains. They don't hold the chain tight and let the chain hit and damage the fender.
That's why I love CAM locks, I have gotten them so tight I was afraid I might pop the tire! No slop whatsoever!

I've used chains with rubber pieces built into them & I ruined two pairs just by tightening them by hand. I won't buy another set that has rubber anywhere on them.
