Database Corruption of Characters and Lost Data
You may have noticed some strange strings in posts since the transfer, garbage that came through instead of characters, namely ellipsis, em-dashes, and directional quotes single and double. Basically the stuff Word and other programs replace automagically.
There are simply too many for me to correct by hand, and I don't want to risk more problems forcing mass changes into the database.
If you are the owner you can simply edit, replacing the garbage with the proper characters, or ignore the issue.
One more major problem came out of this- when a matched set of directional quotes (“quote” as opposed to "quote") everything after that point was lost in the transfer.
These posts, with lost data, I restored by hand. Well, by copypasta, but again in order to try to avoid further issues with the database it was necessary.
If you see any additional posts with data loss or other non-character issues dating before 1/19/09, please let me know as soon as possible.
