Okay, yeah, mine are stamped steel and non-adjustable.

I tried flattening out the angle on one of the latch plates slightly, which sort of worked, but I don't like it because it changes the angle between the hook and the hole in the plate in a way that I feel could make it less secure.

I'm considering shimming the latch plates lower.

Threaded "J" hooks on my 2003.......no flutter on my unit. And I don't hook the rear if I'm alone and on paved roads.
Be careful the you don't tighten the hooks to much, the top can crack.
I only travel with half of the upper bed. Used as storage when parked.

QUESTION: I need to clean my plastic penthouse windows.
Any recommendations for plastic window cleaner?

Many products out there (I use the 303 protective vinyl cleaner). Best bet is to stop by some sort of Marine outfit...or go on-line to West Marine. Do make sure you read the directions carefully, if you start cleaning with a bunch of dirt already on the windows you’ll leave scratches.
303 has a demo video out on U-Tube I believe.

Plexus, the only thing I use on plastic windows, and the only thing I ever used on my helmet faceshield when I rode.

Thank Herb,
I'm going with the Plexus.
Will post results asap.
Been 16 years and could not see it snowing out the windows while in Utah last week.......
Thinking it's time to give them a good cleaning.
