I suppose that, in my case, I always edit in Photoshop and save for web presentation after making adjustments, crops and framing. Once I save the jpg, I've never had that forum issue, tho I've seen other suffer with it.
Yes, most photo editing software now reads the EXIF data and if needed does the rotate for you. When you adjust and save it either updates that data to your orientation, of strips it off and doesn't use it depending on file type. I believe .png does not use it.
I wonder if the rotation issue is associated with the file size. I just uploaded a pic directly from the phone and it was rotated. It weighed in at more than 3mb. I deleted it and realized a copy down to 600x800 or less than 200kb. It’s fine.
