Updated signature line

I noticed a long time ago, that updating your signature updates all old posts.

Today I noticed that it doesn't always make sense to do that. A post about a problem I had with my oil filter leaking didn't make sense with the modifications I have listed in the signature - but it did make sense with the mods I had listed when I wrote the post.

It probably doesn't make sense to have to record each post the current signature at the time it was posted, but it could make sense of some old posts.

Re: Updated signature line

Displaying my ignorance here: I imagine signatures are stored separately from postings by the forum software. (The forum is a huge database of different components that get linked together depending on what the user requests.) When a posting is assembled, the software grabs the signature file for the poster and appends it to the post. New sigs replace older ones in the database.

Based on my db experience that is the way it works.

Re: Updated signature line

An interesting addendum: The number of pics in the profile button under the signature also updates on previous messages. Makes sense but I thought it was worth noting.
