After putting the van and top up for sale in order to potentially get into a QuadraVan, I have started on the project again - the QuadraVan owner didn't seem extremely committed to selling it, which is totally okay.

Last week I convinced my brother to help me get the top into the garage so that disassembly could begin. It was just the two of us and with the metal roof of the previous van being still attached, it was a huge effort to lift it above waist level.

There were some minor injuries in the process, but it mostly went well!

Then I began breaking the top down so that I can get to work on the fiberglass, overall it seems to be in pretty good condition. I plan on installing an RV fan and LEDs in the ceiling as well as some side mounts for some gutter Yakima mounts for future solar panels. Then onto bedlining the top.

I will be furloughed from work for a week starting on Monday. I plan on knocking out the restoration of the Sportsmobile top that week and I was hoping for some advice on the process. I will also be going back over my bookmarked posts.

Anyways, from the previous owner, there were a few leaky spots on the top. I plan on sanding down the top a bit, then covering it.

A while back, I bought some white Sealbest Elastomeric Roof Patch Paint to paint the metal roof. Can I use this instead of something like monstaliner or raptor liner?

I’m going to be picking up a palm sander, some new washers for the top, new hardware and self tappers, firring strips to sandwich the canvas and possibly the butyl for the bottom portion of the canvas. Should I also be using this on the washers to make it watertight?

I also plan on picking up electric metal shears from Harbor Freight to cut the hole.
