Sorry for the delayed response, I'm still out here just get busy with life, so slow at responding. Thank you for the compliments on the build.
I look at all junk yards for tops and other parts. Thesamba is also a good source for eurovan pop tops.
I personally prefer the fixed top for the extra cargo space it has. You can load lightweight items above the driver compartment etc. I didn't find it to be all that different in gas mileage.
I went with the sprinter for the diesel aspect and it carried 1 1/2 times as the fords. But the sprinters are extremely costly to repair. And I don't miss it one bit. Neither does AAA. I maxed my tows in 3 months. And parts are up to a week out. Try sitting in Victorville for a week, Yeah real fun... Good Luck
Awesome build on the 1st ford in this thread. I am building one slowly and was wondering what you used for your interior walls and if you could give me a little bit of info on how you created such an excellent interior.
Thanks,
Walls are 1/8 Birch ply and can be found in 12 foot lengths. That way there is no seam. Then it was covered in a light weight carpet. The interior was built with 3/4 birch ply and covered with a formica type product.
Right on! Can't wait to see this build out. What are you thinking about, like the 2000 or looking to go in a different direction? I am still struggling with the layout for mine...decisions, decisions, decisions.
Hey Spur my van will be going down to Colorado camper van next month to have my PH installed would you be interested in building out my interior? Please... PM me.
