Thanks Viva, 5.4 it is then. I always have the option of cummins 6bt down the road in version 2.0.

Messing with sketchup to get some ideas going.

Well here go.

Out with the old.

Im not saying this is going to happen but I feel better with this sitting at my house instead of the junkyard. I had to rescue it.

The hardest part of any journey is taking that first step!

Hope to see the progress over time.

A learning experience. The intake has to be removed to use a standard hoist to lift it out. The a/c pump is on the very bottom of the engine. You have to lift the engine to get it out. What a pain. I wonder if I should put a new one in there just so I wont have to do this again? I was sold this vehicle with the previous owner saying it had a knock. I tried to turn it over and it was locked. Now I know the real story. It has a hole in the side of the block and half a rod laying on the cross-member.

WOW that's one hell of a knock.

What did he do run it without oil for 20k?

You rarely see an engine that well ventilated in racing.

BTW love the slide out box truck plan. Briliant!

Unless the photos don't show it I don't see as much oil laying about as I'd suspect with that Titanic-sized hole in the block. Wow!

I know this is a little late, but I think I read where an engine swap on my '95 E350 requires lifting the body off

My theory is that it was knocking and someone ran it until the rod went though the case it it locked up without spewing oil everywhere. I drained a full pan out of it.

Tomsbeast, it will fit back in there but it is close. I couldn't imagine putting a v10 or 7.3 6.0 back in one of these. Maybe a 6bt in about 200,000 more miles.

Some guys I used to race with, took a rolled E350 Diesel ambulance, and swapped on a 15 passenger body, to use as a race trailer and crew hauling rig. They raced out of it for years. Anyhow, the dad told me it took he and the boys a weekend to swap van bodies. Might have been an exaggeration, but as I look under mine, there doesn't seem to be but one big 'ole electrical plug, the steering column, and 10 or so 5/8" body-to-chassis bolts. Then there's the lift you'd need...
