Landbulance Build Thread, ( 2001 E350 ambulance )

Still trying to get Ambo1 finished, its slowly coming together!

I took your advices and traded the stock grill for my keeper but I just couldn't live with a white front grill (even if I'm not keeping it) so I gave it a good sanding and painted it flat black together with the bumper and headlight surrounding. It looks waaaay better! It was a good practice for the next one! Lol

Cheers
Mr. D

It will be a slow start as I'm heading out to Flagstaff for Expo in a couple weeks and need to get ready with the patrol and M101. I couldn't resist getting started though and got the gutting going

This is what I started with, nice and clean!

It might be tempting to use the cabinets as is, although they are very nice they just don't work with what I have in mind for the interior. I have to say though, these units are way overbuilt. The cabinets aren't made of typical plywood but instead with seaboard. At about $14/sqft I'll recycle as much of the material as possible!

Doesn't look like much but there were so many screws to take out I thought they were just screwing with me, took me longer than expected! I was glad to find out all the walls and ceiling are insulated with fiberglass faced with foil. Makes it way easier to deal with than the spray foam.

And hard to believe this thing could fit in the back! So this will be broken down and recycled into new cabinets when possible.

And what's the deal anyway with the E350 headlights shape? I've seen a few of the same year as mine that don't have that plastic surround but a larger headlight instead? You guys can enlighten me?

Cheers
Mr. D

The headlights difference is whether commercial or leisure / RV / passenger.
Commercial has those you have.

Thanks for the answer, is there a reason for this or any benefit of one over the other?

Re: AmbuLand Build Thread, ( 2001 E350 ambulance )

The fancier the trim package on the van the fancier ford tried to make the headlights. I prefer the old school replace the whole unit headlights over the plastic coated replace the bulb units. If you have the old school rectangular ones you can swap out the entire unit for the 200mm e-code Hella headlights. They provide a much more functional beam pattern. With the Hella lights you also have more bulb choices. You can run up to a 130/55w H4 bulb. I run 100/55w bulbs in my van. For off road use only of course.

AmbuLand Build Thread, ( 2001 E350 ambulance )

Nothing fast happening with this build but at last I removed the front wall and can now see the potential in there! Big enough that I'm gonna try to incorporate a shower in the build. But 1st thing 1st, need to tackle the electrical system, remove rear AC and rear heater then insulate the front cab...

Cheers
Mr. D
