Re: Betty White!!

So I'm horribly torn on the insulation. With the Reflectix, how well does it insulate when not directly exposed to sunlight??? I see a lot of people use it, but I've also been told that it's all about radiant heat - or direct sunlight.

Re: Betty White!!

Im going to put some pink insulation or something like behind the finish plywood as well that's next. the Reflectix is really for basements and not much sunlight there so im going to believe it will work just fine.

Re: Betty White!!

I was able to get a little work done today
I pulled off the plywood and added Jewt to all walls and exposed metal. I just wasn't sold on the Reflectix only. But shes good now I tell ya. This week I have 2 windows coming in I will install and tomorrow I will be doing the House Battery system. with Isolater and Inverter. should be a busy week. Im running out of time we leave for BC in 5 weeks.
Here are some picks of todays work
You may notice the roof is not done this is so SMB can do there pop top.
Thanks for looking
Ron

I have not! Yet! I really like the the low profile of the pop top and I will be driving the Van almost every day. But I plan on checking out a raised roof for sure. I like the one ive seen on some older Dodge Vans with the 3 windows in the front. What is the name of the company up your way I will look them up.

Thanks Ron
Hey Ron, when you sent me over to your buddies shop I met some gal who looked through my rig and she claimed she has the crusier top and lives in town. Seemed like she knew your buddy pretty well.

BTW, nice ride. Good luck on your build.

(My van goes in tomorrow for the second bed plate gasket )

As I understand it....you don't need light to have radiant heat. Anything above the temperature of it's surroundings radiates heat. The suns heat waves hit the van panel, the panel heats up and radiates heat. But the panel can also conduct heat (to whatever it's in direct contact with).
A product like Reflectix reduces the transfer of radiant heat, light source or not. I'm not sure of it's effectiveness against conductive heat, tho I'm sure it has some with the air bubbles enclosed within the material. But it's probably most effective with an air gap between itself and the radiant heat source (pull it tight between the structural ribs of the van body instead of following the contour closely type of thing)
IMHO.

Re: Betty White!!

Well after a long search I have found another VW Euro van pop top for my new Homebuild. Super excited to do it again this time it's going on a Chevy Express with a Dura Max and with the lessons learned from the last one this one should be super easy and just what I want. {The last one came out great just took a week to finish after the learning curve and little things.)
I will take picks of the install for sure maybe it will help someone else.

Ron
