Re: Betty White!!

Who does your wife feel about the 3" higher passenger seat? Joanne is 5'4" and already uses a 3-4" platform I made her to put her feet on in our 2000 Chev. Express w after market captains chairs. How about the way the shoulder strap fits across her neck when buckled in??

Looks like a fun build.

I want to put one in the back of my van so I can haul my racebikes. my van was a conversion van so it's full of carpet everywhere. that pop top looks great too! now I know what to look for. *edit*-btw, what do I look for?? what model did that specific one come off of? thanx.

Good stuff! What did you use to cut the window hole and how nerve wracking was it?

When using VW pop tops on other vans, how does one get them to seal to the roof of the van when they are closed down? Do you have to build up the van roof surface in between the ribs?
All you have to do is trim the front corners of the "EuroVan" top so the curve of the top and the roof are the same its not a lot of trimming maybe 2in. and only the front corners. on Chevy its the same triming. On the Ford the roof channels are deeper and you need to fill it with waterproof sealer but only on the front and rear the sides will seal with the tops rubber gasket. Super easy!!
Here are some pic of the first one I did

Re: Betty White!!

Thanks for the info and pics, very helpful.

Just a tip for those searching for tops. Regarding the Eurovan tops, from what i've seen it seems that the full campers (stove, sink, etc) have a top more similar to the old Vanagons, with a cargo box up front and higher profile top. The "weekender" models without appliances, do not have the front cargo box and have the nice low profile top like Betty White's.

Also, 1992 i think was the last year of Vanagon, and 1993 the first of Eurovan.

Re: Betty White!!

The difference in tops is that Winnebago makes the shorter pop top with luggage rack and Westfalia makes the longer more aerodynamic...

Good luck with the top install.
