Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

The hole I cut was 3ftn by 7ft, there would be room to sleep up there if I wanted to.

I only did it for head room.

I like having my bed in the back I dont cook or hang out that much in the van except to read and sleep.

Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

How much room do you have at the back end of the roof? I would really like to install a Eurovan roof (if I can find one to buy) on my 2008 EB Ford. I am looking for a bit more room above my bed as well as standing room behind the front seats. I am not sure the VW roof would be long enough for what I want. I know its more work but has anyone ever thought of welding the VW metal roof onto the top of a Ford and GM van? That would be super strong as Germany has good rollover standards.

I guess in a perfect world (the one when there is tons of extra money in the bank and a $6,000 plus top wouldn't make a dent in it) I would just buy a GTRV (lower profile) or SMB Penthouse roof that goes straight up but I would still like to install it my self something neither company will consider.

Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

My top goes up right at the rear of my seats and over half of my bed My bed is 6ft 6in long so i can lay flat with no hang over. you could move the roof back further to gain more room over the bed however I found I didnt need it. With the roof up i can stand at the edge of my bed and have plenty of head room and im 6ft 2.

You could get creative and get the euro roof-remove the rear lifting system add an extra set of front struts and add them to the rear then have a different canvas made and raise the the hole thing 3ft. Could be fun!!!

Thanks,
The hole is 3ft by 7ft that leaves 6in of roof inside the edge of the canvas I use that for shelves. I have about a foot or more over my bed I could cut out if I wanted to but that really comes in handy as shelves as well. plus I was a little worried about cutting it right to the edge of the canvas

Hope that helps

Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

This might be usefull. I want to add a pop top to my van but can't find them in my area. What i did find is an online part diagram and parts list for the 2003 Eurovan with pop top.

Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

Cool site, Nothing I need but im sure someone could use it.

As for finding a top I looked at www.gowesty.com and found my first one there, the last one I bought

from a forum member who went to a raised roof. you just have to stay after it. I will be sure and let you

know if i find another one and if you dont want it I will probably snatch it up.

So if you find one and dont want it let me know I will buy it.

Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

You had posted earlier that you did not like the rear hinges and was thinking of doing something else. Do you figure something out or go with the hinges.

Why I'm asking is If I cannot find something out this way, and I'm told there are rare or here on the east coast. I might build one myself, the front hinge is similar to something I built for a horse enclosure.

Re: Betty White!! Added the Pop Top

I am just using 2x4s to hold up the back. They are cut perfect and keep the canvas nice and tight.
