I’m resealing a leaky rear window and stuck in the throws of butyl tape removal. The van frame wasn’t too bad but required a lot of pressure that I don’t thing the window frame can handle. Any tips for getting a clean surface on the window frame?
Thanks!
Thanks for the advice! I spent over an hour scraping (on a frozen northwest night) before recognizing the importance of heat. After starting with rubbing alcohol I graduated to mineral spirits before landing on acetone (thanks loper!). The combination of heat gun and acetone (totally safe right?) with steel wool finally got me to the finish line. A painter’s tool worked well for initially prying off the old crusty tape. I plasti dipped the window and will reinstall next time it warms up a bit. Cheers!
